Style Obsession...
...Miroslava Duma. An editor at Russian Harper's Bazaar, named the Russian 'IT' girl and a fashion queen. Has been and I'm pretty sure will be my style icon for a long time coming, from her amazing colour co-ordination to the way she pulls off catwalk looks better, more laid back, more real. I love love love her.
My top 3 most influential designers
Any designer can send out models wearing their clothes and have us say ''ohh thats nice'', ''i like that colour'' But only a rare few designers have the ability to mold the way we dress forever. These extraordinarily talented pattern cutters, sewers, tailors, embroiderers and dreamers have changed our perception of what fashion can be, they have broadened our minds and the possibilities of what can be done with the odd scrap of fabric and a few stitches. Their influence is held everywhere we look, in pop culture from the likes of Lady Gaga to even architects taking inspiration from the structured pieces of Haute Couture.
1. Coco Chanel
She is the lady who changed the way women wear clothes forever. Gone where the days of rib-busting corsets and ankle sweeping skirts and 'Bonjour' we said to the days of timelessly elegant yet strikingly simple knee length skirts and the famous tweed jackets of which the basic silhouette has remained through the years. Chanel is now one of the most popular and desired fashion houses in the world and with that they hold the most recognized and replicated handbag of all time - the classic Chanel flap bag.
2. Alexander Mcqueen
The late Alexander Mcqueen was somewhat of a fashion rebel and was even nick named ''The hooligan of English fashion''. This comes to of no surprise with trousers names such as the 'Bumster' who's effect resembled that of a builders bum to collection names such as ' Highland Rape' which obviously portrayed the look of women who had just been brutally raped. But despite the controversy Lee was the start of a new era in fashion, the limits of what was acceptable were now being pushed and the results were both inspiring and gruesome. But what Lee really showed is how fashion magic really could be created in the back of an old warehouse with a zipper and a tablecloth.
Autumn/Winter 2009 Spring/Summer 2010
Ready To Wear
3. Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana
These two are the most powerful and world renowned Italian duo who really have brought sexy back. Famous for their immaculately tailored suits and clever ways to flatter the female figure they are the epitome of glamour. They have carved the way for other designers to use more provocative campaigns and luxurious/extravagant fabrics. But they really are the best of both worlds, with Dolce & Gabanna being the more formal and extravagant side of the business there is of course D&G which caters for the more casual clientele. Either way i guess sex really does sell.
